An Open Letter to Haterzz

May 29th, 2010

The nice thing about the internet is that even if you erase all of the stupid, hateful, idiotic things you say on your forums, someone out there has hung onto it.

No compromise;

At Solid we realize that 13.5 million of the 18.5 million skateboarders world wide comes from the United States, so we would expect that about 75% of skateboarding companies would be from the States. Supporting local skateboarders and skateboarding companies is a lofty goal but here at Solid we have from the start. By getting our shop decks sourced from a local skateboarder, Olive Manufacturing. There is no need to have our shop decks shipped from eastern Canada or China.

At Solid we have created a location based around skateboarding and snowboarding. Since skateboarding and snowboarding has always been about being unique why would we want to be like anyone else or like something from the past? Come to Solid and compare us to any shop out there now. We are one of a few, an experience that you would not expect at your average skateboard shop. Why? Because that is what we love to do, be original. Yeah we got headphones, we listen to our ipods when we shred. We have watches and sunglasses, its sunny out and we can tell time. We inventory all brands based on feedback from you, the customer. Check us out we have the most complete selection in Sherwood Park. No compromise.

We encourage our customers to visit the competition; we know you will be surprised. We have had years of experience and training, Solid has been a dream of the two owners for years and it show by how we choose our staff, and how involved they are in the local scene. Weather that be skateboarding or snowboarding you know our staff are 100% committed to it. So yeah, go to the competition check them out and then come back to Solid to get what you want, service and selection, with a genuine smile.

Solid believes that skateboarding has always been about the now and what is next, pay homage to our idols of the past but it truly is a youth movement. It always has been. No sense in living in the past you sound like an old man at the park “back in my day… D3’s were the sickest” Don’t like shopping at the mall shops don’t. No one is forcing you to give you money to the evil corporations or fake mall skate shops. Just stop whining.

Corporate involvement has been present since the beginning and skaters who are in the know will abandon these companies to companies that have core values.

Example;

In 1964, The Super Surfer Skateboard was licensed from RideMaster before Vita-Pakt Juice Company bought the license from them. Surf legend Hobie Alter worked with Robert Goodman of RideMaster originally using the Chicago wheels and trucks and later patenting the contained bearing wheels and triple cushion trucks. RideMaster also made a private label line for Sears, Wards and a few others.

Were not about to give you a complete history of the skateboard this is meant to serve as an example of corporate involvement for the past 45+ years.

At Solid our team riders, employees, shop locals, and owners ride and test all the equipment in the shop. No compromise, if it is garbage it doesn’t get shelf placement. We believe that a race to be the least expensive leads to poor quality, and Solid will not sacrifice ride for low-cost. Even our competitively priced products meet Solid’s high standards.

If you doubt how legit Solid is come out to Millennium on Thursdays 7pm to 9pm we’re there skating, full team and shop owner dedicated to pushing skateboarding to its next level. All abilities all styles we’re there, where are you? Whining behind your computer screen? Boo hoo. Shop at Solid our life doesn’t suck and you might find something you like.

Solid Skateboard Shop, No Compromise, Sherwood Park’s largest inventory of quality skateboarding gear. Don’t believe the hype, get what you want not third rate crap.

Questions? Comments? Criticisms? Hate Mail? Email us at info@solidskateboardshop.com, or just stop by the shop for a chat.

Add a Rainbow and Magic and its True;)

    Lyle,Mary and Solid are the best thing to happen to Sherwood Park in a long time
    I can’t speak for everyone but I can speak for how much of an impact they have had on my life.First of all they don’t really have any obligation to do half the things they do.I’m sure they could just sell skateboards and snowboards and do just fine,but they have gone so much further than that.
    They have organized skate camps for the community,thrown skate and snow contests,hosted local video premieres and paid for the venues,they have helped fund both a shop skate vid and a shop snow vid,and they dropped a very generous amount of money on the Nuulife Cinema Video last year just to support their riders.
    Many shops don’t really do much for their riders with the exception of a small in store discount and a few stickers.Solid has been amazing at going above and beyond what is expected of a shop sponsor.They have sent us care packages in the mail,had us over for team dinners and barbecues,vouched for us by giving our videos and photos to different reps and companies,given us travel money and genuinely just listened to our concerns and ideas.

    All I have to say is support Solid because they are in this for more than the money,and if you have any problems take it up with the owners I know they will be happy to work through your concerns with you.This is as much their scene as it is yours.Start to recognize everything they have done for this town and show your appreciation.

    Wow Dan, Thank you very much. That is unbelievably nice thing to say, much appreciated. If we could do more for you guys we absolutely would. Unfortunately at times the budget is not as big as we would like it to be. We are grateful to be recognized like this. I saw Mary well up a little when I read this to her.

    We will be keeping this open for comments keep them coming positive or negative all are welcome, just keep it decent.

    Don’t know what the all the hate was about, but seeing this post made me want to add my two cents.

    Solid is a rare shop in the skateboard industry. A place with premium product, great staff, and owners that ride and care so much.

    Solid was one of my first design clients straight out of school and to be honest, the stuff sucked. But Mary was stoked to support the skateboarders around her and still comes to me today for design work. Solid supported my videos every year I made one without hesitation, even helped pay for the premiere.

    Although you might think these things effect only a few people, its speaks to the true character of the people at solid. They didn’t have to do these things, they could’ve hired a professional design firm, but they support the community that supports them.

    Shop at Solid. – Zinger
